Bill Gates is one of the most well-known individuals in the modern-day world. He is currently the second richest individual in the world (with a net worth of $91.9 billion as of 2018) and he is the co-founder of world-renowned Microsoft Company.
Apart from that, Gates is engaged in a massive charity program known as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Bill and Melinda (and their 1,500 employees) work hard for the benefit of humankind.
Every year, Gates Foundation gives away more than $4 billion to various missions. One of the major concerns of the Gates Foundation is the massive gap between the rich and poor countries in terms of health facilities. Gates thoroughly believes that this gap can be fixed. One of the prime goals of Gates Foundations is to eradicate malaria and polio. That is in addition to the measures taken to minimize the spread of tuberculosis and HIV.
So far, the Foundation has given away nearly $40 billion to health programs in various countries. In a nutshell, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation focuses on three aspects: prevention, immunity and vaccination.
Over the past decade, four countries were able to eradicate malaria thanks to the Gates Foundations’ significant contributions. In addition, statistics show that the mortality rate of malaria has gone down by 42% during the same period. Giving more hope to those who live in third-world countries, Mr. Gates firmly stated that it is possible to eradicate malaria within a single generation.
Back in 2014, the Gates Foundation was able to reach another significant milestone with the collaboration of the Indian Government and Rotary International. The joint venture of these three bodies was able to eradicate polio from India. In fact, several years ago, more than half of the world’s polio cases were found in India. The aforementioned program was able to spread vaccinations across the country with the assistance of 2 million vaccinators. According to Mr. Gates himself, it was their greatest health achievement. The foundation’s next aim is to make the entire world a polio-free planet.
In addition to the health-related achievements of the foundation, Bill has another personal mission. He is now taking aim at complex issues such as climate change and clean energy. Experts say that accomplishing such a complex task will be incredibly difficult due to the rapid changes to climate already occurring. Still, Mr. Gates is ready to spend more time and money on this mission. He says the world needs to realize the actual situation and take rapid action to prevent further climatic change.
Finally, Gates works on another mission called The Giving Pledge. This mission was cofounded with Warren Buffet – the 3rd richest man in the world. The purpose of this platform is to encourage billionaires across the globe to learn the habit of giving away. Both men have pledged to donate huge portions of their wealth to charity rather than passing it down to their children.
