Chris Hardwick, who built an empire around fandom and maintained an image of positivity and sobriety, has been accused by his former girlfriend Chloe Dykstra of being abusive, controlling and assaulting her sexually during their relationship in 2012-2014.
Dykstra wrote an essay on Medium which detailed how Hardwick forbid her from having male friends, speaking in public or going out at night without him. She also said that she “let him sexually assault me” on numerous occasions. “Every night I laid there for him, occasionally in tears,” she wrote.
Although she did not mention Hardwick by name, readers quickly determined who she was referring to. AMC announced over the weekend that they have suspended his show, “Talking with Chris Hardwick,” while they investigate the matter. Hardwick will no longer moderate panels for AMC or BBC America at Comic-Con International in San Diego in July.
