Netflix Just Dethroned HBO

The king is dead. Long live the king.

The Emmy nominations are in, and Netflix just kicked HBO to the curb, scoring more nominations than the cable giant for the first time ever. HBO has led the entertainment industry in Emmy nominations for nearly two decades.

While HBO scored big with 108 nominations for Game of Thrones, Westworld, Silicon Valley and more, Netflix scored even bigger with 112 nominations for Stranger Things, GLOW, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and others.

But here’s the kicker, folks: It doesn’t really matter. Both HBO and Netflix are owned by WarnerMedia — the real winner in all this.
