Around the same time former Trump campaign chairman was hearing a guilty verdict on 8 of 18 charges levied against him, Michael Cohen pled guilty to 8 felony charges of his own.

Five counts are tax evasion, one count is making a false statement to a bank, and perhaps most importantly, two counts are campaign finance violations that are tied directly to President Trump’s campaign.

In his guilty plea, Michael Cohen said that hush money payments made to Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels were made “at the direction” of Trump. These payments are considered to be campaign contributions because they were made with “the principle purpose of influencing the election.”
