After 16 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, 41-year-old Manu Ginobili has announced that he is retiring. He had one year and $2.5 million remaining on his contract.
It was reported earlier by ESPN that Ginobili was considering retirement. After a meeting with coach Gregg Popovich, he decided that it was time to move on.
Ginobili averaged 13.3 points, 3.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds for his 16 years in the NBA. He was a two-time All-Star, a four-time NBA champion and the 2008 NBA Sixth Man of the Year.
“IMMENSE GRATITUDE to everyone (family, friends, teammates, coaches, staff, fans) involved in my life in the last 23 years. It’s been a fabulous journey. Way beyond my wildest dreams,” Ginobili wrote on Twitter.
