Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort reportedly sought a plea deal before his upcoming trial in Washington, DC. The Wall Street Journal said that talks stalled due to issues raised by special counsel Robert Mueller.
The talks occurred while the jury was deliberating in the Virginia trial where Manafort was found guilty on 8 counts of financial crimes, including tax fraud, bank fraud and hiding foreign bank accounts.
The second trial will begin September 17. Manafort will face charges related to his political consulting work in Ukraine. Mueller’s team reportedly has three times the number of exhibits than they had in the Virginia case.
