Texas Jury Sentences Former Police Officer to 15 Years for Murder

Former police officer Roy Oliver was sentenced by a Texas jury to 15 years in prison for the shooting death of unarmed 15-year-old Jordan Edwards. Oliver fired into a car full of teens, striking Edwards with one bullet, killing him.

The jury deliberated for 12 hours before deciding his fate. Prosecutors argued for a sentence of at least 60 years while defense pushed for 20 or less. Edwards’ mother said she would have preferred a 25 to 30 year sentence.

“He actually can see life again after 15 years,” she said. “And that’s not enough because Jordan can’t see life again.”
