Actor Mocked for Being Out of Work is Offered a Role

Geoffrey Owens played Elvin Tibideaux on “The Cosby Show” from 1985 to 1992. After his income was hit by the Cosby allegations causing re-runs of the show to be canceled, Owens found himself doing what anyone else would do when they need to pay the bills. He found a job.

Photos released by the Daily Mail of Owens bagging groceries at a New Jersey Trader Joe’s brought out the trolls on social media. The struggling actor was mocked and laughed at, which he admitted was “devastating” at first.

Many actors and fans offered support and defended Owens, however. Tyler Perry, the successful director, producer and actor also took notice and posted an offer on Twitter: “I’m about to start shootings OWN’s number one drama next week! Come join us!!! I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist.”
