Florence May Spike Gas Prices Along Coast

Analysts believe that the East Coast may see a surge in gas prices due to Hurricane Florence.

The Colonial Pipeline carries hundreds of thousands of gallons of gasoline per day from refineries on the Gulf Coast to the East Coast. The pipeline is directly in the path of Florence. Another pipeline, called the Plantation Pipeline runs along a similar path and carries 700,000 gallons of gasoline per day from Louisiana refineries to the Washington, DC, area.

A spokesperson from AAA said that motorists should expect price increases to be brief, but could potentially be very steep.
