Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) says death threats have increased since President Donald Trump tweeted a video that alleges she was dismissive of the 2001 terrorist attacks on 9/11.
The video shows Rep. Omar in a recent speech allegedly being dismissive of the attacks on Americans at the World Trade Center by saying, “Some people did something,” then shows footage of the buildings burning during the 9/11 attacks.
Before Trump’s tweet, what started the controversy, was the New York Post running a cover calling out Omar for allegedly trivializing the 9/11 terrorist attacks, with the headline:
Rep. Ilhan Omar: 9/11 was “Some people did something.”
Underneath the headline is a graphic of the World Trade Center twin towers burning with the caption: “Here’s your something – 2,977 people dead by terrorism.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called for Trump to take down the video, as well as, has asked police on Capitol Hill to increase protection of Omar.
