The Seattle Seahawks have given their quarterback Russell Wilson a $140 million contract that also includes a $65 million signing bonus. This effectively makes him not only the top paid quarterback currently in the league but also the highest-paid player in the NFL.
The Seattle football organization has given 30-year-old Wilson a 4-year extension contract which will contractually tie him to the Seahawks through the 2023 season. The deal also includes a no-trade clause.
Wilson’s contract works out to roughly $35 million per season, not including the signing bonus which adds an additional $16.25 million annually when divided by four years.
Wilson’s contract surpasses that of Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the previous record holder, who averaged $33.5 million per season and received a $57.5 million signing bonus.
