Breaking: UK Bans Internet Porn – Could the US Be Next?

Beginning in July, the government of the UK is enacting a ban on Internet pornography, and will force all Internet users to prove that they are over the age of 18 or they will be blocked entirely from the ability to see adult content.

How Will the Ban Be Enforced?

Under the new rules, “Robust age-verification checks on users” will be required to be carried out by any commercial provider of online pornography. The government has not specified a specific method of age verification, other than it must be “rigorous” and users cannot do so by simply ticking a box or typing in a birth date.

Methods may include users entering their personal details into a privately-owned database or by buying a pass from newsagents. Pornographic websites who fail to adopt the new standards could be blocked to all UK users, as well as, have their payment services withdrawn.

Will the U.S. Also Block Internet Porn?

As governments around the world look for ways to introduce new rules to protect children from harm caused by viewing pornographic content on the Internet, some speculate that similar legislation and regulation may soon come to the United States, which operates more pornographic websites than any other country in the world.
