Speaking at the Time 100 Summit on Tuesday, Hillary Clinton spoke out about the Mueller investigation, and why she thinks Trump would have been indicted for obstruction, if not for the fact that he is the current sitting President.
“If He Weren’t President”
During the Q&A segment during the summit, Clinton made it very clear that she believes that Trump tried to obstruct the Russian investigation, even though Mueller’s report doesn’t explicitly state as much.
“I think there’s enough there that any other person who had engaged in those acts would certainly have been indicted,” said Clinton. “But because of the rule in the Justice Department that you can’t indict a sitting president, the whole matter of obstruction was very directly sent to the Congress.”
“The Obligation of the Congress”
Clinton said it is too early in the process to call for Trump’s impeachment, and she supports giving Congress the opportunity to investigate Mueller’s findings without a ‘preordained conclusion’, and ‘based on evidence.’
“If at that point they believe high crimes and misdemeanors have been committed, then I think it is the obligation of the Congress to put forward articles of impeachment,” she said. “I’m really of the mind that the Mueller report is part of the beginning. It’s not the end.”
