Did Trump Really Just Encourage Rally Goers to Shoot Migrants?

At a campaign rally Wednesday night, President Trump made a comment some are describing as an endorsement of violence against immigrants.

‘How Do You Stop These People?’

Speaking on his concerns regarding the US-Mexico border and the caravans of Central American migrants trying to cross it, Trump posited to the crowd: “How do you stop these people?”

“Shoot them!” shouted someone from the crowd, to which Trump chuckled, shook his head, and remarked, “That’s only in the Panhandle you can get away with that statement”, referring to the region where the President was speaking.

The response emitted laughter and applause from the crowd before Trump continued on with speaking to the benefits of building a border wall.

A Call For Violence?

The fact that Trump made a joke instead of discouraging the suggestion has some viewing the incident as encouraging violence against immigrants. The Trump Campaign has not commented on the exchange.

Panama City and the surrounding area are traditionally conservative, with 71.2% of Bay County residents voting for Trump in the 2016 election.
