President Donald Trump is now seriously considering a new ban following last week’s mass shooting in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
In an interview with Piers Morgan on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Trump has stated that he will “seriously look at” banning gun silencers.
Trump Unhappy With Frequency of Mass Shootings
Republicans are usually opposed to stronger gun control measures. Trump isn’t in love with the idea of a ban, but he did say that he is unhappy to see the frequency and severity of mass shootings in the U.S.
Last week, a gunman killed 12 people during a shooting in a municipal center in Virginia Beach. A high-capacity magazine and a silencer belonging to the shooter were recovered from the scene.
Earlier this year, the Trump administration already banned bump stocks, which is a device that enables a semiautomatic firearm to fire bullets more rapidly.
Virginia Governor Proposing Gun Control Legislation
Virginia’s governor, Ralph Northam, is hoping that lawmakers will consider a package of gun control legislation. His proposals include a ban on silencers and high-capacity magazines.
