A woman and her girlfriend were attacked by a group of men on a London bus after refusing to kiss.
Melania Geymonat and her girlfriend, Chris, were on the top deck of a double-decker bus after a night out in West Hampstead in North West London. They were approached by a group of four men, who started making crude and homophobic comments and gestures to them.
Brutally Beaten for Refusing to Kiss
“They wanted us to kiss so they could watch us,” Geymonat said of the attackers. But when the women refused and asked the men to leave them alone, they were brutally beaten. In a photo Geymonat shared on social media, the pair is shown with blood all over their faces, hands, and clothing. The men also allegedly robbed the couple before fleeing the bus.
Both women suffered facial injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Geymonat is now sharing her experience to raise awareness of violence against women and gay people. She wants people to understand that this isn’t an isolated event, that this kind of hate crime is common.
She also stated that it made her angry that they were “seen as entertainment.” Police are still investigating the event, and are looking for witnesses and any information.
