President Trump has again demonstrated questionable behavior around Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Likely intended to get a rise out of his opponents, Trump continues to joke around with the Russian leader at just about every opportunity. This time, the U.S. president appeared to buddy up to Putin while having a laugh about Russian election interference.
Trump flashed a smirk at Putin while wagging his finger at him and saying: “Don’t meddle in the election, please.”
Putin simply laughed.
Every opportunity Trump gets to ease doubts about his relationship with Russia, he does the opposite.
He has apparently accepted Putin’s denials that conflict with U.S. intelligence reports on multiple occasions. And he’s reportedly broken with the advice of his aides repeatedly when it comes to his interactions with Putin, too.
Now, he’s again shown his affability towards the Russian president.
In their first talks since the conclusion of the Mueller investigation, Trump has made no exceptions in his behavior. On the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, Trump again acted friendly towards the U.S. adversary.
Not only did he joke about election meddling, he also quipped that they should “get rid” of journalists.
While meeting with Putin, Trump motioned towards the press and said, “Get rid of them. Fake news is a great term, isn’t it?”
He added, “You don’t have this problem in Russia, but we do;” to which Putin responded: “We also have. It’s the same.”
Since Putin came into power back in 2000, 21 journalists have reportedly been killed in Russia.
