Former Vice President and 2020 Democratic candidate Joe Biden made quite the blunder when speaking to a crowd in Iowa on Thursday.
Biden was speaking at a town hall with the Asian and Latino Coalition in Des Moines, where he is campaigning for the 2020 Democratic primary. He was speaking to the crowd about education when he made the slip-up.
Biden Botches His Statement on Education
Biden started out talking about challenging students and having advanced placement programs in schools. But what was meant to be a statement about how lower-income students are just as smart as those with more income and resources at their disposal, Biden instead said that “poor kids are just as bright, just as talented, as white kids.”
He immediately tried to add to the statement as damage control, but he had already botched the statement. President Trump’s campaign has latched on to Biden’s slip-up, tweeting a video clip of the remark.
