Spicer gets spicy in his dancing debut on Dancing With The Stars this week. The original White House Press Secretary for Donald Trump, Sean Spicer accepted the invitation to join DWTS this year. And clearly, he has zero shame.
Sean Spicer looks an awful lot different in a vibrant yellow (green?!) ruffled shirt doing what some might call a salsa versus his time sweaty and uncomfortable in front of the press as White House Communications Director.
Spicer served as White House Press Secretary and White House Communications Director for President Trump until July 21, 2017, when he resigned. He ultimately was replaced by Anthony Scaramucci, who was in the role for a total of 10 days.
Since leaving the white house, Spicer has kept a very low profile. He wrote a book in 2018 called The Briefing: Politics, the Press, and the President, but it did not garner a lot of attention or love in the media.
When reviewing it, the Washington Post suggested that Spicer was trying to gaslight America about the President. Not quite the ringing endorsement he may have wanted.
He was offered a position on DWTS as soon he left the white house but said it didn’t feel like the right time in his career and in politics. 2019, though – that’s Spicer’s year.
The concept of the show, if you’re unfamiliar, is that professional dancers get paired up with celebrities and have to teach them how to dance. Each week, they learn a new style of dance and routine and perform for the judges, the audience, and anyone who is very bored with access to cable television.
Sean Spicer was lucky enough to be paired up with Lindsay Arnold, who has been on the show since season 16 and won it all on season 25 with Jordan Fisher.
In a move that was surely supposed to endear us to him, Spicer did a salsa to Spice Up Your Life by The Spice Girls. He wore an outrageous neon yellow shirt that was far too tight, with a deep plunging V neck and ruffled sleeves. The outfit included extra-tight all-white pants.
Despite Donald Trump’s encouragement and support of Spice-y, he is not looking so hot. He scored just 12 out of 30 with the judges, barely beating out fellow constant Lamar Odom.
One judge was so taken-aback by Spicer he couldn’t help but be blunt. “What were you doing there? It’s like you were being attacked by a swarm of wasps.”
“You were off-beat most of the dance.” One criticized.
Arnold described Spicer’s talent as “pre-preschool level”.
Unless Spicer pulls out a major upset, we’re thinking he may not take the crown in this. But at a guaranteed minimum of $125,000 for showing up and putting on a ridiculous shirt, he’s probably okay with that.
