Chrissy Teigen revealed she suffered a miscarriage following a recent hospitalization due to excessive blood loss.

The TV host shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram on Wednesday, September 30 in a series of black-and-white photos.

Chrissy’s Message

“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” she wrote.

“We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”

The 34-year-old — who announced her third pregnancy with husband, John Legend, in August — was having a challenging pregnancy prior to the pregnancy loss.

In fact, she was brought to the hospital earlier this week because she was suffering from blood loss, and she had been put on bed rest prior to that.

“I guess in the simplest of terms, we can say my placenta is really, really weak,” she shared on Instagram on September 28.

“I feel really good. The baby is so healthy, growing stronger than Luna or Miles. He moves a lot. He moves so much earlier than they ever did.”

Baby Jack

Though the couple never revealed what they were going to name their baby boy prior to the loss, Chrissy shared in her post that they had started calling him “Jack.”

“We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack,” she explained.

To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive.  We will always love you. . . Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers.  We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you. . . We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience.  But everyday can’t be full of sunshine.  On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.

Thankful For Her Family

Despite suffering such a devastating loss, the cookbook author expressed her gratitude for her two children, daughter Luna and son Miles, and how thankful she is for her family.

“We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience,” she said.

“But everyday can’t be full of sunshine. On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.”

Chrissy and John first announced their pregnancy in the singer’s music video for “Wild.”

The news of their pregnancy came as a bit of a shock, as the couple’s two children were both conceived through IVF.
