Dear future 2020 Saturday Night Live musical guests, let Morgan Wallen be the example of what not to do.

The up-and-coming country star was slated to perform on the show this week, but they canceled the performance because he had broken their COVID-19 protocols this past weekend.

Read on to learn more about Wallen’s actions, as well as read his apology to the show and his fans.

Partying Over the Weekend

Countless TikTok videos surfaced this week of the 27-year-old partying in Alabama without a mask in both a bar and a house party.

One video also shows him kissing a woman and hanging out with a number of fans in very close quarters.

After the videos surfaced, Wallen started to receive a lot of criticism for his behavior, especially considering he was scheduled to be on SNL less than a week later.

Performance Has Been Canceled

Though Wallen has not tested positive for COVID-19, he revealed in an emotional Instagram video on Wednesday, October 7 that he would no longer be performing this Saturday.

“My actions from this past weekend were pretty short-sighted, and have obviously affected my long-term goals and my dreams,” he said in the video from his New York City hotel room.

“I respect the show’s decision because I know I put them in jeopardy, and I take ownership for this. I’d like to apologize to ‘SNL,’ to my fans, to my team for bringing me these opportunities, and I let them down,” he said.

Going to Focus on Himself

Following the backlash from both the TikTok videos and his canceled SNL performance, Wallen revealed he’s going to take some time to reflect on his actions.

“And on a more personal note, I think I have some growing up to do. I think I lost myself a little bit,” he said.

“I tried to find joy in the wrong places and, I don’t know, it’s left me with less joy, so I’m going to try to work on that. I’m going to take a step back from the spotlight for a little while and go work on myself.”

He continued, “I wish I could have made country music and my fans proud this Saturday, but I respect the decision once again.”

Wallen also revealed that SNL creator Lorne Michaels told him the show would “find another time to make this up.” However, the show has not announced a makeup date for Wallen at this time.

No Replacement at the Moment

It’s unclear if this week’s show, which is being hosted by Bill Burr, will feature a musical guest.

The show has not announced a replacement for Wallen, but it wouldn’t be a shock if they decide to surprise fans with a performer on Saturday.

SNL made their big return to Studio 8H this past week with host Chris Rock and musical guest Megan thee Stallion after doing the last few episodes of Season 45 from home.

They have also announced their hosts and musical guest for Saturday, October 17 will be Issa Rae and Justin Bieber.
