Surprise, Mindy Kaling welcomed her second child!
During an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Thursday, October 8, the former Mindy Project star revealed she had her second child, a baby boy named Spencer, on September 3.
Nobody knew Kaling was pregnant with her second child, but it makes sense considering we’ve all been in lockdown for the better part of 2020.
The 41-year-old dropped the bombshell after Colbert asked her to share the good news.
“I got something I rarely get these days, which is good news, so if you wouldn’t mind sharing with our audience I think they’d be thrilled to find out something extraordinary that nobody knows up until this moment,” the host said.
“Yes, I’m telling it for the first time now. It feels so strange. This is news to a lot of people. It’s true!” Kaling shared.
“His name is Spencer. I forgot the most important part of it.”
Though fans were aware of her first pregnancy with daughter Katherine back in 2017, The Office alum was able to keep this one private thanks to quarantine.
“Mindy is so thrilled. Keeping it private was easier this time because of quarantine. All of her work was done through Zoom,” a source told E! News.
In fact, the mother of two was planning to reveal her pregnancy during the 2020 Met Gala, but the event was obviously canceled.
“She had originally planned to reveal the pregnancy at the Met Gala, but that obviously didn’t happen,” the source said.
“Because she was in the early months of pregnancy when she went to the Oscars, nobody knew or could tell.”
Not only did she not have to secretly hide from people during her pregnancy, but Kaling didn’t even have to edit any of her Instagram pictures to hide her bump!
“Mindy actually hasn’t been editing herself or her belly in any of her photos,” the source explained.
“She carried out instead of wide, and she was careful to shoot from specific angles, so you couldn’t tell she was pregnant from the pictures of her on social. If you looked at her straight on, you couldn’t tell she was pregnant.”
Kaling has never revealed the identity of her children’s biological fathers. However, but she did explain to The New York Times back in 2019 that she’ll talk to her daughter about it one day, but not with the public.
“My feeling is that until I speak to my daughter about that, I’m not going to talk to anyone else about it.”
