The niece of President-elect Joe Biden has once again avoided serving jail time for her crimes, avoiding a jail sentence in a DUI case. She previously avoided imprisonment over a $110K credit card scam in 2017.
Caroline Biden, 33, has once again run afoul of the law. But she won’t see the inside of a jail cell–or even any major consequences.
Caroline is the daughter of James Biden, the brother of President-elect Joe Biden. James is currently under a federal criminal investigation into the hospital company Americore Health. Two hospitals operated by Americore were raided by FBI agents earlier this year over allegations of gross financial mismanagement and complaints that it was not running hospitals “in a manner that is consistent with public safety and welfare,” according to one lawsuit, the New York Post reported.
Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son, is also under a federal probe over potential tax fraud, while the Justice Department is reportedly looking into his overseas business dealings, Politico reported.
Carolyn Biden’s latest trouble with the law is one in a string of events. Most noteworthy was a credit card scam incident in which she allegedly stole more than $110,000. Carolyn made a plea deal in a Manhattan court and avoided any jail time, according to a 2017 report by the New York Post, which wrote: “Using a borrowed credit card, the blonde Caroline Biden set up an unauthorized customer account at Bigelow Pharmacy on Sixth Avenue in Greenwich Village, and racked up the six-figure bill over the course of a year, according to a criminal complaint.” Carolyn was 29 at the time, and “pled guilty to one charge of grand larceny and another of petit larceny and agreed to make restitution of $110,810.04.”
She received two years of probation in 2018, People reported.
Caroline also got into legal trouble in 2013 when she was arrested on charges of obstructing governmental administration, harassment and resisting arrest after allegedly striking an NYC police officer, CBS reported. The September 2013 incident involved a fight over unpaid rent between Caroline and her roommate, the New York Post reported.
In that case, she was offered another plea deal, dismissing the charges if she stayed out of trouble for six months. According to the Post, the charges were eventually dismissed and sealed. The NY Post reported that friends of Caroline told the paper that she suffered from booze and pill addiction issues at the time.
In August 2019 Caroline Biden was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) after crashing her car into a tree in Lower Merion Township, Pennsylvania, People reported.
In addition, authorities found pill bottles for two controlled substances, carisoprodol and lorazepam, in her vehicle. A blood test later revealed the substances were in Caroline’s system at the time of the crash, according to The Independent.
Caroline Biden was sentenced to 20 days to six months of “confinement,” after pleading guilty to a DUI on December 3, according to Pennsylvania court records, the Daily Wire reported. However, she later made a plea deal which removed the jail time.
Instead, the Montgomery County District Attorney gave Caroline Biden five months of probation, with 20 days in rehab counting toward her sentence. She also was required to pay $1,990 in fines and legal costs, as well as participate in 12 hours of community service. Her driver’s license was suspended for a year, and she will be compelled to participate in a drug and alcohol awareness program, according to court records.
